NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) homes are high-quality, specialist-built housing that is available for NDIS participants who meet strict eligibility criteria (extreme functional impairment and very high support needs). SDA homes have features such as modified doors and doorways, adjustable kitchens, automatic doors, ramps to support access, modified bathrooms, reinforced ceilings and ceiling hoists designed for easy disability support access to a variety of services.
SDA, special disability accommodation, is a highly specialised home funded through the NDIS. They are available to NDIS participants whose disability-related circumstances may lead to an unsuitable housing solution under existing, more conventional forms of accommodation. SDA works separately from the personal support delivered within your home. As in, for example, the funds would be for the housing, but the services provided at home, e.g., support work, SIL, assistive technology (at home), etc are other supports which would/might be funded depending on your plan and individual circumstances.
Categories and Building Types of NDIS SDA accommodation: SDA housing comes in various categories of designs and types of homes, and the most suitable depends on the participant’s personal disability and what type of home is funded in their SDA under their NDIS plan. SDA housing can provide various features designed to aid participants’ access, mobility, safety and independence.
Depending on the design type and building type funded, SDA properties include houses, apartments, and other homes or dwellings specifically designed for participants. Adom Support values that you get to make your own choices and will assist participants to decide which NDIS SDA property suits your personal circumstances, including mobility needs, living arrangements, location of the home, facilities provided, and your future long-term needs.
It’s special disability housing that offers residents and guests greater opportunities to navigate daily life in a home setting which has been specifically created to meet their needs. SDA also integrates closely with your other supports and can fund or be combined with, things like support staff, personal care workers and SIL where relevant for eligible, appropriate participants. We don’t include any personal care in SDA funding itself; it strictly covers your specialised home building. We partner with participants to empower them in understanding their accommodation choices.
